i like to add some thoughts to this discussion: first i do understand why you want to have the right barcodes and so on, but... for me as a user there are only 2 thing realy importand 1 the front cover 2 the description all other things are only for the "pureists" the thing is sometimes i have the right backcover tekst, but there is no backcover. from that moment mymovies keeps anoying me to upload to the database, wich is not allowed because of not having the backcover even worse, with many movies downloaded from the database, there is no description, probally because the uploader also doesnt have a backcover and isnt able to upload the text. for me, i am perfectly happy with just the front and description and no further information at all or even a description with a review over a correct barcode if i have to select a movie i'm not saying to my wife : lets see barcode 12345 or this movie is about barcode 12345 perhaps a label "this is a custom description" without/with less contibution points is a option

Way to resurrect an old thread ![Tongue out](/images/emoticons/mozilla_tongueout.png) . I'm afraid the simple answer is no, the web service data is shared and therefore is required to be accurate thus a rear cover is required in order to verify a description is correct. By all mean make a feature request for a personal description but I doubt very much the developers would ever consider it, as the only correct description is obviously the one the title was sold with and considering the millions of titles in the database and over a million users the potential server storage would be rather impractical for users to have their own stored. There are future plans that may provide some sort of alternative (no promises) but unverified/custom descriptions simply cannot be allowed on the web service and where users upload them they will when discovered be removed for accuracy. Although some users always feel something is better than nothing, nothing is actually much better than WRONG.

Hello, I'm a french guy and I don't understand everything so I hope I'm at the right place. I had some DVD which doesn't have any barcode. It was a collection back in 2002 where the DVD were sold with a 4 pages magazine. The barcode was on the magazine and nobody kept it (because the magazine were so bad). So I had like 40 DVD in this collection without barcode on the box art. How can I contribute for these ? Is there any false barcode for contribute ? I don't know if I'm clear I can post the cover if it's more simple.
Sorry for my bad english.

You use "000000000000" as the barcode for these. But please search by title first to make sure they don't already exist.

I have a couple of what I assume are box sets which do not have a barcode in the back, but are on the bottom of the box. All of them are in the database, but two of them don't have ANY covers at all and the other one has a poor front cover. I am on a MAC. How should I go about loading these images? I also cannot scan at 250dpi as the Contribution Guide suggests. I can scan at 150 or 300. What should I do? The affected sets are Barcode ID's 033937033384, 033937033346, and 033937033322.

I believe this works the same for Mac as PC (I'm not a Mac user so not sure), so scan at 300, when you contribute it will be down scaled locally to 250dpi and stored on the web service at 150dpi.

How should I do the covers without the barcode? Somehow it registered that I submitted twice. I also read somewhere that the MAC version does not support Box Sets. I have started installing a PC version in a Virtual Machine on my computer. I'm not clear on how to include the covers and then report the barcode with included image.

The latest Mac version does support box sets, on the PC version when uploading a cover where the barcode is not on the rear, e.g. on the bottom there is an option to provide a separate evidence scan of the barcode that pops up, there is an equivalent in the Mac version that should pop up automatically when ever the system can't find/recognise the barcode on the cover.

Yeah, Box Set contributions works just fine on the Mac. I've contributed and modified several since the feature was added last year.
Also, whether or not it is a box set... if you contribute a rear cover that doesn't have a barcode on it, you are presented with an additional screen asking for "proof" of the barcode. You need to, in such a case, take a picture of the box/art from an angle that shows either the front or rear art (that you are submitting) and also the side/bottom that contains the barcode.
I have had to do this a couple of times and as long as I submitted that proof at the prompt, I've not had a submission like that rejected.
Movie-ing right along...

For me it ain't clear what the guideline would mean for the Vinegar Syndrome Archive titles. all these releases come in a hard carton sleeve with no upc, with an amaray inside with the upc, see for example the review of A Gun for Jennifer on the webs https://vinegarsyndrome.com/collections/vinegar-syndrome-archive/products/a-gun-for-jennifer. I understand that normally we use the amaray insert, as slipcovers are only included with first presses. As with this range every copy comes with the cases I would consider the case the the correct cover.
