Why is the total title count in my collection incorrect?

I understand that the first number is the total titles "showing", and the second number is the total titles in the collection.
I have selected to show "All Groups" so it should show all the titles in my collection.

The numbers showing in my app are 4749 (4745). Why is the total title number lower than the showing title number? This makes no sense.

Prior to the last sync of my account the collection title count was correct "4749", and since that sync the count is is now showing incorrectly.

Because not all groups are counted in the totals.

As of version 5, the groups "Ordered", "Wished", "Interested", ect., which are not considered titles that are in your collection is not counted by default.

You can configure it.

I have configured all the groups to be counted.

Of the total titles I have in my collection below is the group breakdown:

Owned, for keeps = 1522
Previously owned = 450
Wished = 6
Rented = 400
Digital = 2371
Add those up and the Total = 4749

I have categorized "Movie Collections" under Seen, and this is not counted:
Seen = 522

I have attached screen shots showing my in app collection breakdown.

Per the in app message: "The first counter shows the titles currently displayed on screen, dependant on group selection, applied filters, and including only box set set parent titles, and not child titles if box sets are nested. The second counter shows the entire total amount of titles in your collection within counted groups, independent on what is currently displayed."
Somehow the total of displayed is showing as 4749 but the entire total is showing as (4745). I dont have any groups or titles that account for the 4 title difference. And how can the displayed number be more than the total number?

This also doesn't explain how it was working fine a couple days ago and after the last sync, now the counts are screwed up, and I have done nothing to my account or app settings in that time, other than a sync when opening the app. Did 4 titles when syncing get modified and are now not being counted toward the total? Is that even possible?

So, I take the non-answer since Jan 31 for this thread to mean that you have no solution for this and that it is a known bug that will remain unfixed for the forseeable future?

iOS app is begining to look unsupported from my perspective as I have two current issues that have not had any further response in the forum. Weeks of non-response for this one and over 10-months for the other issue.

The problem here is - there is not a counting issue in the app from what we know - the issue is here understanding that a lot of things affects it.

You have the "Count As" option which affects title count, and many, many others.

We are lacking a tool to precisely layout the exact counts from the service.

The information we at this point can see in the service is that you have 1987 disc title profiles, but not what they count as, 2664 movie profiles and 98 tv series profiles.

Digging out the information is a task of 3-4 hours, and we cannot spend that amount of time to inform why you have the count you have.

The main reason for it being very complicated to give you a good overview of this is the "Count As" functionality.

The "Count As" functionality, which I can see is also heavily used in your titles in the personal titles affects the total count only, and not the amount of titles shown on screen.

"Count As" gives a more accurate count of titles, but it also makes it much more difficult to get an easy overview.

So, as much as I would like to give you an easy answer to this, I cannot.

If a title with a parent and tree child titles do not have "Count As" set, it counts as 4, as there are 4 profiles, 1 parent and 3 children, which is not really accurate - this is why we have "Count As".

If "Count As" is then set to 3, this title counts as one less than it did before.

If you have your collection set to not nest box sets, and show both parent and child titles on screen, that would count as 4 when displaying, but when the total counter takes "Count As" into account, it is only counting as 3 - therefore it is not uncommon for the total counter to be less.

"Count As", as I remember it does NOT apply to the group overview you have.

Example, taking in your 1522 titles from the owned group.

Of these, all 1522 is disc title profiles.

100 of them is parent profiles, 419 is child titles and 1003 is single titles.

Total: 1003 + 419 + 100 = 1522.

But, the intention with "Count As" is that only the actual movies in a box set counts.

So, if you do not count the parents, you are on a total of 1422 if we expect count as to be set right on all profiles.

Therefore it is common that the total count is lower than the actual profile count.

Does that make sense?

I think the issue here is that you expect the group overview to show the same as the total counter - it does not, it does not take "Count As" into effect as the total counter does.

The intention with count as is precisely that, to not count the amount of profiles, but to count the amount of what is to be considered actual movies on a box set, because counting profiles specifically is somewhat misleading.

Thanks for responding. Looks like i will need to spend the 3-4 hours on my side and see if i can figure out where the "count as" is off. Hoping it is a box set, as that hopefully shouldn't take too long to look for.

I brought this up because my collection looked fine until some point near the end of January. I opened the app and it syncd and then the count was off as described above. But before that everything was fine (to me), and I did nothing in my collection to result in a count change, it was a simple sync.

Does that mean that another user changed the count as for a box set that I have in my collection that threw my collection count off? Thus the sync being the trigger for the change?

I had set my count as to account for all titles, both box set parents and child titles, so the overall group view of all titles in my collection would be the same as total count of titles in my collection. When count as first was implemented, I went into all my box set titles and changed the personal count as to equal the total. Somehow a box set, or several, may have been missed and now it has revealed itself??

There at some point was a fix to an incorrect handling of the count - I cannot remember exactly when it was released though, but I think it was further back.

The issue there was as I remember it that it counted some titles twice.

Another user changing the count as on a title will change your count, yes - this is why you have the option to overwrite it in personal data. Note that you can filter by count as.

Since the count as feature is relatively new, indeed there over time will be more and more where count as information is added on the title.

I did not understand the meaning of count-as. In My Movies Collection under Personal Data, the value count-as -1 appears for some movies. If I want to save changed data, the error count-as entry invalid appears. I have to delete the value first in order to save the data.

This is a bug - it should not show -1, the -1 value is the same as "Not assigned", and it is not counted as -1.

I expect this problem is fixed in the latest pre release.
