I am making some versions of these for myself, as the edges are all cut off (is this what overscanning is?) my TV is 1366x768 pixels so could be tou hat.
I also find that too much space is given to fan art, and not enough to the description, as that's what one really wants when browsing.
One thing I have found is that rebuilding the index from scratch is really really slow. So backup my DB, create a new one with only 20 or so titles, and then switch between them as I need.
Not sure what "prior" database is, as you can only save as a backup.
In any case, after having done that, I find that unless i reboot the Dune, or create index on a new folder every time, most changes are not reflected. They must be cached or something. It's not that much of a deal, i created 100 test folders from 001 to 100 and just increment the dune storage config each time and click update.
still, would be nice if there was an easy way around this?

Yes with your tv resolution you certainly have a bit of overscan, so you will need to adapt my templates so it can fit your screen.
I always give priority to the fanart, description even truncated is enough for me to remember the movie ;)
I also use a test db when doing my templates with a dedicated account on a different pc and with only 20 profiles (DVD/BR/hddvd and tv series mixed) because it's true that doing a full update on a few 00s of movies is veeeerryyyy slow...
I think there's a trick to update the dune cache so you don't need to turn it off to see the new things. Might be to press "select" button on te remote, but I'm not 100% sure (but I'm sure it's a button on the remote).

Thanks, I think fanart looks great, I just noticed that when friends / family come round or the wife wants to watch something, she wants to read it as she won't know the movies. I typically know what I want already, so a text based list would do ;-)
so I guess it depends if you people who make decisions based on description or not.
I have pretty much managed to adapt them now, although the coverart attributes are a bit confusing, there is a width, then maxwidth etc, and also positionX. I ended up changing them all to get it to work, however could you explain the difference?
I have set up a test DB now, however i just backup and restore between the two, hence i wondered what the "prior" was for...
Final questions to the expert:
1. You can set use_icon_view to switch between standard Dune interface and the one set up in the XML, is there anyway to change other standard pages? I would like to get the home page to match. this would involve: get rid of the top bar, change icons for everything on homepage, eg favourites and network shares. (even just favourites would do)
2. when you have a list of episodes, categories, alphabet etc, is there a way to make them go down the column first. so like a dictionary it would go
a j s b k t c l u
etc....
Many thanks!
Dave

1. this part is managed by dune skins, and this is a completely different thing to do than the xml. I don't know anything about skinning the dune inetrface. But you can find many skins here : http://www.mpcclub.com/forum/showthread.php?t=26999The only thing I know is to have only one page on the dune start screen (no more tabs). This will mix all icons : sources, network and favourites. You need to go to the dune set up/appearance and chose "plain mode". I think that you can also remove the top bar/right panel in the same section. 2. no you can't. Sorting is always left to right, i don't think that MM xml is able to use "direction=vertical" for the coverart part which one are you talking about ? the one in the cover wall or the one in the backdrop ? The one in the backdrop is quite complicated to manage, that's true, because the boxart needs to be reworked with a correct resolution as MM can't scale it. :(

Gugusse wrote:NEW !In order to make it easier for everybody, I created a full pack zip of all my templates. The file contains everything you need to use my templates without any cut/paste or anything else. Just unzip the pack in C:\ProgramData\My Movies\FileStorage\User Customization\Meta Data\Dune Templates (do "unzip here"), chose the template you want to use in the metadata/dune config window of MM, run a full update and that's it. Bonus : those packs come in 2 flavors ! 1. Complete templates 2 to 8 using MM default box art download the pack here : http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?411t8uctbhgsj942. Complete templates 2 to 8 using TomX box art. TomX beautiful box art will replace the MM default in all wall and menus. Depending on the template you will use, TomX box will also be applied to the box art in the movie backdrop (for example in template 2 or 5, but not in template 4 because it would look weird). download the pack here : http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?x74hzcgwc0c3dv8For those who don't know, here's the difference between the MM default and TomX : MM Default : TomX : hope you will like it ;) PS : doing this will also be easier for download because of Mediafire killing my links without reason :[ Hey I have downloade the packs and unzip it in C:\ProgramData\My Movies\FileStorage\User Customization\Meta Data\Dune Templates and open the dune config chose template 2 (alle the template is there) and I did a remove/run opdate but When i open the dune i can't see the backdrops. Alle my movies is on a' Qnap nas, I have opdate the Dune, use template 3 but still no backdrops . Please help. Regards Jannik

you need at least 500 contribution points to have 720p backdrops or 1250 for 1080p. So with 0 points you only get default backdrop.

you can buy points or contribute to the database to win some points (so at the end it's free). See here : http://www.mymovies.dk/how-to/written-documentation.aspx?Page=Contribution%20and%20Donation%20Points%20Detailedonce you reached the minimum points for a feature (so 500 for 720p backdrops for example), it will be linked to your account and will stay forever. FYI : you do'nt need to pay for each MM option, once you have 500 points it will give you access for ALL options that need 500 points or less. See here for options details : http://www.mymovies.dk/how-to/written-documentation/feature-table.aspx

i also have the backdrop problem - no movie backdrops in the dune export.
i have 2500 points, so the feature should be enabled. i have run a full dune export update via the options menue after i've changed to template 8.
does anyone have an idea how to "create" the movie backdrops?

does anyone have an idea how to "create" the movie backdrops? May be you found out by yourself, but the solution is that you have to enable backdrops in CM options / mediacenter/scroll down to find it. There you will be able to chose the resolution for your backdrops (depends on how many points you have). By default the option is turned off. Once done you will have to run a full index update to apply the new backdrops. TBH this option should also be in the dune options in CM, dune users never go in the mediacenter part of the options...

There is an option under options -> meta data storage, at the bottom where you can update all database. I have had this on, and never needed to turn on the option under mediacentre... quick questions: 1. Is there anyway to use the backdrop for boxsets? The XML just has the dune_folder.txt information for SeriesOrBoxSetFolder, I can't see where one could merge in the backdrop. It would be quite nice to have it for pages like the harry potter one below. 2. Can one layout the episode list? My second attachment shows season 1 of a show, however I would like to "design" this the same as I did the content for movies and episode details. again there is config for the creation of dune_folder.txt in TVSeasonFolder, however not any XML for laying out the generation of the images. I will soon be done and hope to upload my version of a skin soon! Cheers Dave File Attachment(s): screenshot1.png (373kb) downloaded 321 time(s). screenshot2.png (285kb) downloaded 249 time(s).

Gugusse wrote:Hi all dune users. I've adapted and created 3 new templates for the dune index export. first, let's start by the "How to" : 1. dowload the .zip that you want. unzip it, it will contain a .xml as well as some .png files 2. XP user need to go to "C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\My Movies\FileStorage\User Customization\Meta Data\Dune Templates" Win7 user go to : "C:\ProgramData\My Movies\FileStorage\User Customization\Meta Data\Dune Templates" 3. in "..\Dune Templates", create a new folder with exact same name as the .xml file in the zip (for "Template 2.xml" create a "Template 2" folder, with same capital "T"). If you want to install the 3 templates, you will need to create 3 new folders. 4. copy/paste in this new folder everything you will find in the "..\Dune Templates\My Movies Default" folder 5. copy/paste in new folder the .png files corresponding and that you found in the .zip (.png in "Template 2.zip" in "Template 2" folder, say OK for overwriting files) 6 copy paste the .xml file in "..\Dune Templates" (next to "My Movies Default.xml") 7. go to CM/Options/metadata/dune config and voilà, you will find in the "template" the new templates you just installed along with the My Movie Default. Select the one you want and run a full update of your index to recreate the backdrops. The templates : "Template 2" : based on the MM Default, but this is a condensed version with bigger view of the backdrop and a dimmed overlay (I really hate the default one that takes too much place...) invisible on black backdrops, but usefull for reading on white backdrop. Changes apply for movies, template for episodes is MM default (but with the new overlay). Pictures : zip : http://www.mediafire.com/?tb4epj7pvzid02s"Template 3" : adapted from "Glass" template for Yadis by user DonJuan2000 (you can say "thank you" to him on mpcclub : http://www.mpcclub.com/forum/showpost.php?p=224235&postcount=284 ). Black overlay, easy to read, large backdrop. I mixed both Glass and only kept the poster for cover (no DVD/HDDVD/BR cover). This time I also adapted it for episodes (also from DonJuan) Picture : zip : http://www.mediafire.com/?qmu841ksyfj1l5c"Template 4" : also from DonJuan "Polar" work ("thank you" here : http://www.mpcclub.com/forum/showpost.php?p=223752&postcount=254 ) Very different from the normal one, very big description easy to read on smaller screen. Episodes adapted as well. Pictures : zip : use the one below ;) I hope you will enjoy it, and that there'are the first of a long list (mpcclub is full of very beautifull templates if you need some inspiration...). If you find any bug (text too long that doesn't fit in a window for example), just post here and I will correct it. If you want to make changes, just remember that Template 3 and 4 are an original creation from DonJuan2000 on mpcc, it would be fair to ask him if you can change it (that's what I did, and it was not a problem). Are these templates available from another source? These links are no longer valid.

tomX versions of the templates are just using a different kind of box art (see the pictures), everything else is the same.
About JCR : yes of course it's working in english or any other supported language by MM ;)

Strange however.. the templates are copies to C:\ProgramData\My Movies\FileStorage\User Customization\Meta Data\Dune Templates. The new templates show up on CM as expected. I select the new template, apply and rerun metata data update. However, it's still using the default template on the Dune. Should I delete the index on the Dune and start again?
